Family Pictures & Christmas Letter

The boys-and Billy showing off his splits

Dear Family and Friends,

It has been quite a year for us. The little boys were finally adopted on March 16. The boys got new names with special meaning to hopefully keep them in line, and you know, support BYU football and the movie Topgun. So not only did we become an iphone family but went from 4 to 6 members.

The parents have been getting old. My mom broke 1 and half bones this year, the half being a stress fracture, in her leg, so I’m not going to count it as a full break. The break was in her foot and required her to wear a “boot”. Don’t worry she got 2 of them, one for normal use, and the other to take to the lake so she could ride around on the jet ski. My dad still always sounds like he is coughing up a lung most of the time and almost got pneumonia, again. Its probably due to all the Nascar exhaust in the garage when he is watching the races on TV. His new mission in life is to transfer all VHS tapes to DVD in the greater phoenix area, I’ve estimated some half a million DVD’s in our garage.

Court Maverick (one who doesn’t follow others) is doing better in school this year. He has collected almost 25 dollars for 100% spelling tests. Court turned 9 this year and since the adoption was final, was baptized on Aug 7. Apparently in the Overfield family turning 9 is also the age in which one is ready to attend their first Nascar race. He loves soccer and learned alot on his team this year, even scoring a goal. His favorite past time is definitely playing video games and he is a good helper at home.

William Bronco (the untamed) is doing pretty well in school too. He still loves for me to read to him at night, but I’m pretty sure that’s just cause he doesn’t want to go to bed. Though he is growing up, he is still very much the baby of the family, If we had a dollar for every time he whined or cried we would all be able to go to Disneyland first class in no less than a month. Billy is a dare devil and really believes he can do a back flip. He still loves watching DVDs, loves to talk to everybody, and is a great hugger.

Richard Casey (the brave) is going to school and working. If he isn’t at home, he is at the gym. He may be a brute boy but that does not stop him from doing yoga with Leah. This year he built a stand for his tv and actually is becoming quite the artist despite his rough and tough exterior. He plays football with his coworkers, but most often he is studying, with Leah, or calming Mom down when she has run out of patience. He hopes 2010 might be the year for an actual wedding.

Briannon Renee (the extraordinary) as for me, I thought I would love hunting, but it turns out house hunting feels more like you’re the one getting hunted! This year I kind of got a real job and oddly enough being employed is not nearly as fun as being unemployed. Most nights I’m at church activities or playing basketball to “try” and stay in shape, which is a lot harder to do these days, especially when wearing scrubs all the time with an elastic waistband. Oh and how could I forget mentioning my major panic attack this year when I got a bloody nose.

We thank you all for your love and friendship. The world is a crazy place but having friends and family around makes the journey bearable. We are very thankful for our home, jobs and blessings that the Lord has given to us, without him nothing is possible. As we enjoy this festive time of year we also recognize the true meaning of Christmas and hope and pray that spirit surrounds you too.

Love always,
Rick, Naomi, Bree, Casey, Court, and Billy Overfield
"Because love is the great commandment, it ought to be at the center of all and everything we do in our own family, in our Church callings, and in our livelihood. Love is the healing balm that repairs rifts in personal and family relationships. It is the bond that unites families, communities, and nations. Love is the power that initiates friendship, tolerance, civility, and respect. It is the source that overcomes divisiveness and hate. Love is the fire that warms our lives with unparalleled joy and divine hope. Love should be our walk and our talk." Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "The Love of God," Ensign, Nov. 2009”
So its a over a year late, but better late than never
